Handmade Felt Ornaments

Handmade Felt Ornaments

This year I wanted to try and craft the majority of my Christmas gifts.  I made felt ornaments for all of my cousins based on their interests.

I am not a great drawer so I employed my favorite trick; holding a piece of paper up to my laptop to trace a silhouette of the shapes.

I put a piece of cardboard (from a tissue box) into each ornament to make it more sturdy.  My mom (Thanks, Mom!) sewed the small beads onto this cupcake ornament.

This is my favorite ornament!  My cousin is a kicker on his high school football team and these are the school colors.   It was my mom's suggestion to put the oval behind the silhouette.

I used embroidery floss and sewed the lines between the keys.

A dancer ornament for my cousin who is on her college's dance team.

These were fun to make and inexpensive.  Perfect for my holiday budget this year.

Finally a tardis ornament from Doctor Who that I made for my brother-in-law and he loved it!

Pinterest-Inspired Jean Coasters

 Merry Christmas!

I have accumulated many pairs of old jeans and I've been waiting for the perfect project.  I did a bunch of DIY crafty projects for Christmas gifts this year and saw a project that I thought I would try on Pinterest.  I made these jean coasters for my sister and I still have plenty of jeans left for more projects.

I mixed darker and lighter jeans to create a design.

I used hot glue and glued a felt circle to the bottom.

My sister liked the gift and I had fun making them!

Here is the inspiration:

Peanut Butter Cup Mini Cakes

My sister and I decided that we needed to bake more often!  So to kick off our baking spree we made these little cakes.  We used a Paula Dean chocolate cake recipe for the cakes.

We wanted to add our own touch so instead of following Paula's recipe for the frosting we made our own peanut butter version.  We didn't measure, we just added and tasted until we found the right combination.  Here is what we put in the frosting:

Vanilla Icing (from the store)
Whipped Cream Cheese
Creamy Peanut Butter
Powdered Sugar

We didn't add too much store-bought icing but it just saved some time as we were getting tired as it became later and later in the evening :-)

Then we cut Resse's Peanut Butter Cups and put them on top.

These were simple and delicious cakes that I would make again in a heartbeat.

Quick Craft

My sister told me about creating a new candle out of other old candles.  I made this one in about 15 minutes.

I separated each color of wax first.  I put the first color in a cleaned out aluminum can.  I boiled a little water on the stove and put the can inside (double boiler).

Next, I poured the wax into a jar.  Once it set up a little bit I placed half of an old candlestick in the wax to use as a wick.

I waited until the first color was set up and melted the next color.  Then, I poured it in and repeated one last time.

I like it and it was quick simple crafting fun!

Easy DIY Bachelorette Party Buttons

Being a maid of honor can get expensive.  For my best friend's bachelorette party I wanted to have all the cute things without spending too much money.  I had so much fun making these buttons and the girls wore them out when we celebrated.  You could even personalize buttons even more with names of the bride/bridesmaids.

All that you will need:

Buttons, scrapbook paper, wedding stickers and rhinestone stickers.

Cut the paper into circles big enough for the buttons, cut out words from bachelorette party scrapbook paper and use wedding quotes stickers.  This was fun and easy!
