Frames and Birds

I have a fake red brick wall that I can't paint in my apartment.  I wanted to put something on the wall that would pop.  I used two frames from the rummage sale (previous post) and painted them white.  Then, I traced a bird silhouette from the computer screen.  I searched "bird silhouette" in Google, found one I liked, held up the paper to the screen, traced and then cut (Got the idea from oc cottage).  Then, I attached the birds to the frame with masking tape and to the wall with poster tack.

I think it is just what the wall needed!
Though, I think the wall could use something else.  What do you think?

Total cost of these 11 items:  $5.00
I found them at a local church rummage sale when everything was half price!

Some of these items spruced up my apartment without any extra work.

I Love Mod Podge

Who doesn't?

A lone starfish from my sister that hangs in my sparse bathroom inspired one of my new projects: a beach-themed bathroom.  I believe that every good room deserves some flowers.  But what to put them in?  I wanted to make a flower vase for my bathroom.  Here's what I created...

Spoon Pendant Necklace

My sister Dorothy and I were looking through some jewelry "how-to's" last night and stumbled upon one we really liked.  Here is the tutorial:

We did not create the "rustic" look for our spoons and we just covered them in Mod-Podge.  Here are our versions:

1920's Inspired Headband

Funky Junk's Saturday Nite Special

I recently chopped all my long hair and got a bob.  When I got home, I realized my hair reminded me of a flapper.  I really wanted to accessorize and I was inspired to make a flapper-like headband.

You will need:
-A piece of fabric boning (big enough to fit around your head)
-A hot glue gun (or fabric glue)
-Scissors
-A small piece of felt cut into a circle
-Decorative lace
-A decorative button or bead
-A small feather

First, take your felt circle and put a dot of glue in the center.  Glue the bottom corner of the lace in the middle

Next, bunch the lace, holding it in the middle as you turn the felt circle.  Keep bunching and turning until your lace looks like a flower.  It does not have to be perfect.

To hold the lace in place, glue your decorative button in the center.  Glue down loose outer edges of the lace to the felt.

Put the piece of boning around your head and cut it so that there is about an inch of space between the ends.  Next cut two pieces of lace to be the ties.  Mine are about seven inches.  Fold the lace into a point and glue it about an inch from the end of the boning.  Repeat on the other side.

Put the boning back on your head and use a pencil to mark the place where you would like the lace flower.

Glue down the flower right over the pencil mark.  Then glue one feather to the boning behind the lace flower.

FREE = HAPPY

Gramophone inside La Pedrera - Barcelona, Spain 2008

I love finding things that make me happy.  It's even better when they are free!  If you love music, like most sane people do, it can cost money.  Amazon.com always has songs for free!  They also have a top 100 top free songs so you know what other people have downloaded.  I have just downloaded the song "Helplessness Blues" by Fleet Foxes and I highly recommend it.  I also recommend the group.  Try finding some free songs to make you happy!
